This springtime horse festival in Ramsau am Dachstein represents a unique combination of humans, animals, nature, and tradition. From musical hikes to traditional folk-dance groups and classic Schuhplattl’n, there is definitely no shortage of things to see and experience. The highlight is undoubtedly the grand parade on Sunday, where over 100 horses of various breeds make their way through picturesque streets at the foot of the Dachstein. Folk Festival Highlights: Schutzengel Kirchtag (September 7) & Aicher Kirtag (September 6)
A Kirchtag (also known as a Kirtag) is a folk festival with religious roots. The two most traditional of these festivals in the Schladming-Dachstein region take place in Kleinsölk and Aich. The highlight of the Kleinsölk Schutzengel Kirchtag is the cattle drive from the Tuchmoaralm, where the Brandner family leads their beautifully decked-out cattle right through the middle of the festival and back down to their home farm in the valley. Meanwhile, the Aicher Kirtag totally transforms the town of Aich on the River Enns for one day each year. Visitors are treated to a broad range of activities: authentic folk music on three stages and at participating huts, live emcees, the ceremonial tapping of the festival beer keg, traditional crafts, a children’s crafts park, doughnut specialties and other delicious festival treats, a street theater, and the highly coveted Aicher Vintage Tractor Trophy.

In the Footsteps of TV Mountain Rescuers: Exploring Filming Locations and Meeting Actors at the 4th Annual Fan Day
The Schladming-Dachstein region is a veritable pilgrimage site for fans of the hit ZDF series “Die Bergretter” (The Mountain Rescuers). On average, over 5 million TV viewers tune in for each episode, with the show set in Ramsau am Dachstein. Between May and October, guided hikes to the original filming locations are offered every Friday. The starting point is “Bergretter HQ” in Ramsau village. For the fourth time, on June 6 Bergretter Fan Day is set to take place once again. The real-life Ramsau am Dachstein mountain rescue team, together with air rescue services, will put on a spectacular show: in addition to the action of a simulated helicopter rescue, the actors will also make an appearance in the festival marquee. Around 1,500 fans are expected to attend. A true highlight will occur from September 12 to 14, 2025: the 13th edition of the “Original Bergretter Fan Hike”, with participants hiking through Ramsau am Dachstein shoulder-to-shoulder with their favorite stars. During autograph sessions and evening events, fans will also be able to mingle with the actors in person.
