The Dachstein glacier trails
The longest glacier trails in the world stretch 2,700 meters above sea level - surrounded by a wonderful mountain backdrop of a special kind. From November to July, the world best athletes have the opportunity to train hard here for the upcoming competitions. Around 500 international talents from more than 25 nations use the cross-country ski trails on the Schladming and Hallstatt glaciers every day during this period.
Training opportunities are almost unlimited - for both professional and amateur athletes.
The Dachstein massif covers an area of 772 km² and has been a popular destination for ambitious alpinists for over two hundred years.
In winter and spring, there are hundreds of ski tour options on and around the Dachstein glacier, from easy beginner tours to challenging alpine adventures and great high alpine freeride options.
The Dachstein crossing, also known as “Austria's national ski tour”, is considered one of the most beautiful ski tours in the entire Alpine region. The tour starts at 2700 meters on the Styrian side of the Dachstein glacier and ends in Obertraun in Upper Austria.
Especially for freeride junkies the powder tour, which starts at the Dachstein glacier and takes you with your own guide around the Dachstein via one of the most famous descents, the Edelgrieß descent, is a simply unforgettable skiing experience.
