Carefree skiing enjoyment in the Schladming-Dachstein Region
05/10/2022
The Schladming 4 Mountain Ski Area is the biggest contiguous ski area in the region. Encompassing the four biggest ski mountains in Styria – Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm – it offers a grand total of 123 kilometers of interconnected pistes and boundless skiing enjoyment.
Hauser Kaibling: the most beautiful pistes
The Hauser Kaibling is the easternmost ski mountain in the Schladming 4 Mountain Ski Area. “The most beautiful pistes” aren’t merely an advertising promise, on the Hauser Kaibling they are reality. A dedicated team equipped with an ultramodern fleet of snowcats is proudly responsible for ensuring that piste preparation on this mountain is as good as anywhere in Austria. Also awaiting ski guests here is an XXL funslope, guaranteeing great enjoyment and nonstop action for big and small. A special highlight greets beginners right next to the valley station of the 8-passenger gondola: Wolli’s Kids Park with a platter lift, three magic carpets, beginner-friendly pistes, along with plenty of play and fun elements. Ski-pass holders are welcome to use the entire park for free. Two conveyor lifts, each 15 meters long, are available to all beginners for free, intended to make those early encounters with skiing or snowboarding as easy and stress-free as possible.
Planai: has it all – from sporty to laid-back
Whether you are a sporty skier, an intrepid young up-and-comer, or simply prefer slicing down the piste at your leisure – on the Planai, you are certain to find what you are looking for. The 4.6 km long FIS hill from the top of the Planai is legendary, coming to a glorious crowning conclusion with the
famous Planai finish slope. That said, laid-back winter sports fans feel right at home on these variety-packed pistes as well. The little ski “munchkins” have the most fun imaginable thanks to the different attractions inside Hopsi-Winterkinderland. Away from the regular pistes, the funslope and funcross courses promise family sporting enjoyment for all ages and abilities. If you wish to truly appreciate the landscapes, we suggest treating yourself to an enchanting timeout on the three kilometers-long winter hiking path just below the summit.
Hochwurzen: mountain for diverse wintry enjoyment
Skiers, sledders, winter hikers – everyone is wild about the Hochwurzen. Wide, long hills bring joy to the hearts of ski fans one and all. Especially for guests staying in Rohrmoos, one motto is particularly apropos: Hop out of bed and hit the slopes! Simply leave your car on the car park since most accommodations have direct access to the pistes. For added diversity, we recommend the funslope, suitable for all ages and all abilities. Meanwhile, the seven kilometers-long sledding hill promises outstanding enjoyment slithering and sliding down the mountainside. And on occasion, if ever you are in the mood for a winter hike, the Four Seasons Path definitely won’t disappoint. You can walk it either up- or downhill, it’s roughly six kilometers long and connects Hochwurzen summit with Hotel Winterer and the car park for the Hochwurzen II quad chairlift.
Reiteralm: recipient of five international gold awards for quality
The Reiteralm is located at the western gateway to the Schladming 4 Mountain Ski Area. In recent years, it has established itself as the “training mountain for the world ski elite”. Within the scope of the International Ski Area Test, it was the only ski resort in Europe to be a five-time recipient of the Piste Seal of Quality in Gold. This prestigious, anonymous evaluation is conducted by more than 200 testers from different nations. “Crosspark Reiteralm” is an innovative highlight appealing to beginners and pros alike. On 750 meters, it combines banked curves, jumps and waves with boundless winter enjoyment. New this season: Every Saturday and Sunday, the first lifts begin to run up the mountain at 7:45 in the morning, for even more skiing enjoyment on weekends.
