The tour

From Donnersbachwald via the little-used road to Hinterwald and from there via the shared single trail to just before the idyllic and pure Lärchkaralm. Along the forest road you can stop at two huts in the Lärchkar and then strengthened via the forest road to reach the Stallaalm.

In order to protect the game (resting periods), driving on the trails is only allowed during the following times: 

  • May 15 to August 31 from 08.00 a.m. to 06.00 p.m.
  • September 1 to September 30 from 08.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m.
  • The path from Lärchkaralm to Stallaalm can only be used until the end of the 1st week of September.

Getting there
  • Coming from Schladming: Follow the B320 to Trautenfels. Turn right towards Irdning. Follow the road to Irdning, take the second exit at the roundabout and turn right at the big crossing. Follow the road in the direction of Donnersbach. Cross the village and drive along Glattjoch-Straße until you reach Donnersbachwald.
  • Coming from Liezen: Follow the B320 to Trautenfels. Turn left in the direction of Irdning. Follow the road to Irdning, take the second exit at the roundabout and turn right at the large intersection. Follow the road towards Donnersbach. Cross the village and drive along Glattjoch-Straße until you reach Donnersbachwald.

Parking spaces are available at the foot of the Riesneralm, which is about 500 metres away from the starting point.

Equipment

Weather changes, rapid drops in temperature, thunderstorms, wind, fog and snowfields are objective dangers and require the right behaviour on the road. Hut hosts are experienced mountain experts, they can give good tips on the weather and the route. Lack of equipment, overestimation of one's own abilities, carelessness, poor physical condition and a wrong assessment can lead to critical situations. In case of thunderstorms: Avoid summits, ridges, trees and ropes.
