With the opening of the single track project in Aich, the foundation was laid for a new development in the region and in MTB tourism in general.
Mountain biking is "in" like never before. It has long been clear to those responsible in bike tourism that the number and technical demands of the existing infrastructure often do not cover the needs of the masses of mountain bikers. Most of the facilities are currently focused on the "Hardcore" and "Downhill" areas.
Today, however, mountain biking means more: doing sport in the fresh air, being out and about with the kids and having an experience in the middle of nature - far away from pure forest roads and classic cycle paths.
The Schladming-Dachstein region has recognized this need and brought in experts who have been dealing with topics related to mountain bike trail construction for years - the main question in development is: "How do we bring together tourist interests with those of forest owners, locals, nature conservation, hunting and forestry together so that everyone benefits?”.
On behalf of the Schneestern company, Alexander Arpaci and Tomas Kvasnica (two proven experts in forestry and trail design) dealt with precisely this issue during the planning phase.
The result is a good 5km of built trails in the two communities of Aich and Haus, which are very attractive for locals and guests - especially for families - and also bring some visible enjoyment to experienced bikers.
„Singletrack Haus-Aich“
Philosophy - construction - vision
Behind Singletrack Aich there is a clear promise to the guest: The holistic MTB experience in the middle of nature, without having to plan it yourself.
The concept not only includes a well thought-out trail construction or the clear marking of the routes, but also includes the possibility to rent equipment at the trailhead, have repairs made, shop for suitable equipment or have a coffee.
Sustainable planning and careful construction
When planning and implementing facilities of this type, we work according to the guidelines of sustainable trail construction. Several points are specifically addressed within the framework of this philosophy:
The trails must blend into the forest as if they had always been there! Good planning ensures maximum driving pleasure, with the ultimate goal being the careful use of trees and other natural resources. The structure of the trails is so robust that operating costs and maintenance are minimized and the service life can be significantly extended beyond the classic summer season.
Narrow and flowing trails provide an intense feeling on the bike - regardless of your own ability! The level of difficulty is not defined by particularly steep descents or difficult obstacles, but by the way the trails are ridden. In this way, each person can individually determine how they use the infrastructure for themselves. On top of that, the trails can be ridden with almost any type of bike. This makes it easier to get started in the sport and prevents expensive initial investments in equipment. So the motto is: grab your second-hand hardtail and hit the trails!
A project by everyone for everyone! When planning a Schneestern project, all relevant discussion partners, interest groups and fundamentals are taken into account right from the start. This minimizes conflicts at the table and in the forest. For example, a well-planned trail network can prevent illegal use in sensitive areas.
So single track is not only a benefit for the guest, but also produces win-win situations for everyone involved and offers the perfect entry and starting point for all MTB enthusiasts.
