Premiere on the Planai for a World Cup Night Giant Slalom
Sensation in Schladming
There will be a premiere in Schladming on 25 January. After the cancellation of the men's World Cup races in Garmisch, the World Cup venue in the Schladming-Dachstein region will now host an FIS World Cup Giant Slalom. This will be held as a night race under floodlights. Thus, just one day after the legendary night slalom in Schladming, the world's best giant slalom skiers will also be stopping off on the Planai.
"With the organisation of a World Cup night giant slalom on the Planai in Schladming, a long-cherished wish has come true. The entire team around WSV Schladming and Planai has already proven in the past with a lot of flexibility and competence that they can also host World Cup races at the highest level at short notice. This is a great advertising message for the Schladming-Dachstein Region and the whole of Styria," says Planai CEO Dir. Georg Bliem.
"A big thank you goes to all the partners, organisations and especially the many volunteers who contribute a lot to the success of these races in their freetime with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. Without this interaction, the organisation of such major events would not be possible," adds WSV Schladming President Hansjörg Stocker.
The set-up and preparation work for both night races has already begun. Thanks to the existing infrastructure, many synergies can also be used. The start of the FIS World Cup Giant Slalom will be about 200 metres above the slalom start at the Kesslerbrücke, as was the case at the 2013 World Championships. A mobile floodlight system will be installed over a length of around 350 metres in the upper section of the course. 10 masts with 12 floodlights each will provide camera-quality images and the best visibility for the runners.
Tickets for the men's World Cup Night Giant Slalom on 25 January are now available via the booking platform oeticket.at and thenightrace.at. Tickets are also still available for the annual Night Race, the men's night slalom on 24 January.
