Gröbming Musem
Gröbming
The Gröbming Museum shows the following topics in its permanent exhibition on two levels under the motto "traces of time" - richly illustrated: The results of settlement research on the Dachstein Plateau from the Bronze Age to modern times, an interesting climate study in this context, the extraordinary Roman tombstone of a prominent family, the history of mining in the district, the development of the farming community since 1074, an insight into the history of the Catholic and Protestant churches and their congregations, as well as a look behind the scenes of the 500-year-old Gröbming market town. The Gröbming artist Gernot Langs is responsible for the design of the entire museum.
The special exhibition, curated by Prof. Wilfried Seipel, entitled "From the origin of writing - from hieroglyphics to the present", is dedicated to the development of writing from Egypt via the Sinai and the Middle East to the Mediterranean region, in various successive epochs. Other themes of the special exhibition include Asian scripts and those mysterious pictograms that are still waiting to be deciphered today. The special exhibition is illustrated by numerous originals and replicas, such as the Rosetta Stone, the Phaistos Disc and the Narmer Palette.
