The new main cable car on the Galsterberg is coming into service in time for the start of the 2022/2023 winter season!
After more than thirty years the current cableway has served its purpose and is being replaced with a modern 10-seater gondola. The professional dismantling of the cableway is almost complete and construction of the new gondola is already underway.
"There is a huge sense of anticipation. This is a milestone for the Galsterberg and we are safeguarding the ski mountain for the coming decades. Thank you to everyone who has made this project possible. For we Galsterberg residents the new group gondola lift is the fulfilment of a burning desire," says Galsterberg Managing Director Mag. Peter Weichbold. In addition to the highest level of comfort and a significantly improved transport performance, what really stands out is the architecture of the valley and summit station, with its striking regional "shingle look" design.
An even faster trip up the mountain in unparalleled comfort!
The new 10-seater gondola lift by the cable car manufacturer LEITNER ropeways replaces the over 30-year-old group gondola lift and provides significant added value for the Galsterberg and the entire Schladming-Dachstein region. In the first stage of expansion the lift will have a capacity of 1200 persons per hour, eventually rising to 1800 persons/hour. This means waiting times are a thing of the past. The spacious "EVO Deep" cabins provide the highest level of travel comfort with padded individual seats and plenty of leg room. Total investment stands at around EUR 11 million.
"With the new cable car on the Galsterberg passengers will in future take just six and a half minutes to travel in supreme comfort from the valley to the mountain station, enjoying a 360° panoramic view en route thanks to the gondola's large glass windows", says a delighted Georg Bliem, CEO of Planai, who also envisages the gondola operating in summer on the Galsterberg.
In addition to the highest level of comfort and a significantly improved transport performance, there has been a particular emphasis on delivering a station design with a regional connection. The summit and valley station stand out with a striking 'shingle' design and blend seamlessly into the landscape.
"The small but fabulous Galsterberg ski area is extremely popular among its guests and is a big hit with families in particular. The new, state-of-the-art gondola lift represents a further investment by Planai in quality and provides even more comfort. Such investments not only safeguard the varied winter sport offering in Styria but also provide jobs in the region", says regional Minister for Tourism Barbara Eibinger-Miedl.
The replacement of the main cable car also significantly improves the child-friendly and attractive valley descent, the upper area of which was widened last year, ensuring optimum guest distribution on the mountain.
"The Galsterberg has developed very well in recent years and the new construction of the main cable car is a further important step in safeguarding the future of the Galsterberg over the coming decades. I would like to offer particular thanks to the landowners and the local population for their effective cooperation and support", says Galsterberg Managing Director Mag. Peter Weichbold.
