Shamisen Concert with KEISHO OHNO on September 12th

Schladming and Japan have been closely linked for a long time. The two cities have been twinned with Furano in northern Japan since 1977. To mark the occasion, shamisen master KEISHO OHNO will be performing at the Klang-Film-Theater Schladming on September 12, 2024 as part of his European tour.

The Tsugaru Shamisen is a traditional Japanese musical instrument with 3 strings, similar to a lute. It is played with a plectrum, with which the strings are plucked or struck. The unmistakable sound is rhythmic, dynamic and powerful. The classical traditional repertoire of the shamisen embodies the music of Japan. KEISHO OHNO, a master of the tsugaru shamisen, is committed to making this music known beyond the borders of Japan and preserving it as a living, ever-changing art form.

KEISHO OHNO has been playing shamisen since the age of eight and has already performed in over 100 cities in 46 countries worldwide. Following the motto "preserving tradition while breaking new ground", he seeks the challenge of the new and combines outstanding technique with his personal playing style. This is why he has also been called the Jimi Hendrix of shamisen.

As part of his European tour in 2024, which will bring him to Schladming for the first time in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Austria, he will present a mix of traditional playing technique and modern original compositions.
