Enns bike path - 5th day stage
střední Trekkingbike tour
Weyer is worth a visit: At the market place, magnificent houses still "tell" about the past wealth of the hammer masters. It is a beautifully laid out bike path that leads us directly along the Enns to Großraming. For those of you who are sporty and in good shape, we recommend the route through the adventurous and rugged but magnificent Reichraminger Hintergebirge. You will "master" a short and exhausting but manageable ascent.
On small and slightly hilly roads we cycle through the enchanting Ennstal valley to Losenstein, whose castle dominates the townscape on a steep rock. We continue to Ternberg, passing the 1278 m high Schoberstein. In Steyr, one of Europe's most attractive squares awaits us, where the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo styles "nestle" harmoniously together.
The late Gothic Bummerlhaus is a special treasure on one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Why is a house called "Bummerlhaus"? That's easy to explain: once this wonderful 13th century building housed the "Gasthof zum Goldenen Löwen". But the lion was so "patched" that the inhabitants of Steyr lovingly mocked him and called him "Bummerl", i.e. little dog. And so the house got its name. But discover Steyr also as the over 1000 year old town, which Franz Schubert already found "beautiful over all terms".
At Weyer we turn right from the main road to the town centre - after about 700 metres the road turns to Küpfern, just geht´s into the centre of Weyer. After having crossed the Gaflenz, the path leads over a narrow, idyllic and asphalted path along the brook, past the Katzensteinmühle, back to the Enns, which we now cycle along. Our journey leads us further in the direction of Küpfern. Then it is about 4.5 kilometres, which lead us on a wonderful ride with a wonderful view of the Ennstal until we reach Großraming. The centre lies on the other bank, the main route of the Enns cycle path continues on this side of the river. Those of you who like to get to know the hinterland of the Enns can deviate in Großraming for a variant to the Laussatal.
The main route leads us out of Großraming past the carriage museum - a small, asphalted Strasserl leads through some farms into the valley of the Rodelbach. Shortly before the power station geht´s we climb steeply up the mountain, but don't worry, the time of effort is over, immediately after that serpentines let us down steeply again. Our next destination, we reach on a wonderful ride through meadows, fruit trees and gentle landscape. We drive to the centre of the village and meet again those who have chosen the variant of the one over the Hintergebirge. The valley through which our tour leads to Reichraming now becomes very narrow. Then, a farm comes into sight, we turn towards Losenstein. The Gold mine road leads us out of Losenstein - a small asphalted and traffic-free Strasserl leads the following six kilometres calmly to Trattenbach. On the left bank of the river Enns we continue to Garsten - behind Ebenboden the road suddenly forks, here simply straight ahead to the right of the railway line - on the left we cross the Steyrtalweg - always between the railway line and Enns via Dürnbach to the Rosenau power station.
The right bike: touring bike or city bike, racing bikes are not recommended.
Breakdowns can happen - but seldom in front of the door of one of the numerous service points: basic equipment for tools and accessories therefore never does any harm! Replacement hose and/or repair kit, universal wrench, air pump, brake and shift cable and a screwdriver can never be damaged.
