Susanne Sommer – writer and mother-artist from Mörbisch am See, as well as winner of the Burgenland Literary Promotion Award 2022 – has become well-known for her very unique readings: Her immediate and touching poetry, always connected to the landscape around the Burgenland Neusiedler See, takes center stage in her performances. It’s never a "dry reading." She always complements her poetry with thoughts, free speech, self-written songs, and joint performances with the musicians she collaborates with.
For the poetry performance evening at [ku:L] Öblarn, Susanne Sommer will, as often, be joined by the all-female band "Sunnadl" (Burgenland dialect for "Ladybird"). The three accomplished musician-women captivate audiences with their original, Burgenland-style chansons.
With piano, violin, cello, and vocals, they create a vibrant mix of touching, melancholic tunes and wild, fiery, funny sing-alongs. Susanne Sommer will read and perform poems from her published collections, while also sharing new, unpublished works, bringing them into the Styrian airwaves. Above all, there will be a lot of presence, atmosphere, and vitality.
Afterward, there will be an opportunity to purchase Susanne Sommer’s books, as well as the audiobook, recorded with Sunnadl, which will be released in Spring 2024. The artists are also looking forward to an authentic, cozy exchange over good food and drinks. Susanne Sommer and Sunnadl are both an incredible experience on their own, but together, they enchant a loyal following, along with many new listeners, who wish to indulge in an evening of literary and musical "high senses."
