Family Ski Mountains – small, attractive, outstanding
06.09.2023
Aside from the famous 4 Mountain Ski Area, the Schladming-Dachstein Region is also home to smaller attractive ski areas that appeal to families with children in particular. The Riesneralm, Planneralm, Ramsau am Dachstein ski region as well as the Galsterberg have long been on the radar of ski insiders.
Riesneralm
The Riesneralm in Donnersbachwald is the site of the First Austrian Children’s Ski Bowl. Five runs and five lifts on an area roughly the size of seven football stadiums provide ideal conditions for the little dudes. That said, with 32 kilometers of pistes the skiing enjoyment on the Riesneralm is also squarely aimed at adults. True to the motto “fewer lifts, more skiing”, four ultralong ski runs drop all the way back down to the valley. New for winter season 2022/23: The Ski Movie Race Hill is sure to excite everyone with new cameras and new perspectives. You will also discover a new permanent race hill in the KISI children’s ski area.
Planneralm
The Planneralm, which is the highest ski village in the region, has long been dedicated to naturalness and snow quality. Here, at elevations between 1600 and 2200 meters, the boundless variety of snow experiences constantly changes in ways that are completely natural and positively surprising. Which makes every winter in Styria’s highest ski village something truly special. Standing everyone in good stead, whether the countless children who are playing and sledding in the deep snow, the freeriders and ski tourers, or the downhill skiers. Due to the innovative natural snow concept on the Planneralm, everyone benefits from extraordinary snow and piste quality from the very outset of the season, dramatically different from what you encounter at valley elevations. Families, in particular, are thrilled by the opportunities on the Planneralm, also because of the child-friendly lifts and attractive price structure.
Ramsau am Dachstein Ski Region
The Ramsau am Dachstein Ski Region is home to the biggest ski world just for kids in all of Styria. In Kaliland and on the Kali Pistes – seven beautifully designed hills designed to appeal to youngsters – the little dudes can playfully discover the wonderful world of skiing for themselves. Their constant companion will be Kali, the snuggly, friendly dinosaur mascot of this winter sports resort. The Rittisberg offers a wide selection of pistes and a full range of difficulty. Families can look forward to wide slopes, a fairytale-themed ski path, and even a 3.5 kilometers-long sledding hill. Meanwhile, experienced winter sports lovers may choose to venture out into steeper terrain, whilst a separate training piste has even been created for the pros.
Galsterberg
The Galsterberg in Michaelerberg-Pruggern is a popular alternative to the bigger, busier ski mountains. A variety of easy pistes for beginners, children and families offers plenty of space for wintry enjoyment. From a family point of view, the highlight of the Galsterberg is the Gallic Ski Village: From numerous Gallic huts to talking Gallic figures, lots of surprises are in store. Three fun-runs – the Little Gaul Park, the Bottelix Obelisk Quarry and Roman Road VII – are actually jam-packed with surprises and guarantee skiing excitement for all ages – from little ski munchkins to sporty grandparents.
