Ski tour to Hochwurzen

On this popular tour you follow the ascent track along piste no. 33 and then continue to climb to the left (east) of the piste towards Hochwurzen. Past the mountain station of the Obertalbahn and the Seiterhütte, you reach the summit at 1,850 m - including the popular Hochwurzenhütte.

You can find the prices HERE. You can get your ticket at the ticket machine directly at the start of the ascent track or at the ticket office of the Gipfelbahn Hochwurzen. There is also a touring combined season ticket available for Planai, Hochwurzen, Galsterberg, Rittisberg and Fageralm. Holders of a valid ski pass do not need a separate ticket. The ticket machine only accepts ATM & credit cards with NFC function as well as coins and does not give return money! The ticket must be carried on the ascent, as checks are carried out on the slopes.
The ascent route runs along the eastern edge of piste n° 33. From the valley station of Hochwurzen cable-car you follow a separate route on the left (East) border along the slope until you reach the mountain terminal of Obertalbahn. From there, the route leads you across the small plateau to the edge of the forest, and once in a while at the edge of piste n° 33 until you reach the summit of Hochwurzen. Up through the forest a couple of hairpins are waiting for you, which lets you train your ski touring technique.
Descent route
During the day, you can use every open ski piste. In case of evening operation at Hochwurzen, you can you piste n° 33 for getting back down to the valley in the evening. If you are skiing down between 5 and 7 pm, you have to use the route via pistes nr. 31/35/36 without any exception. Please adhere to these rules. On days without evening operation ALL pistes are closed from 5 pm until 8.30 am the next morning. Trespassing or skiing the pistes during this time is prohibited.
From Schladming towards Rohrmoos via the L722 "Rohrmoosstraße" road. At the roundabout after about 2.5 kms you keep going straigt on through the village center of Rohrmoos. After 2 more kms you reach the valley station of the Hochwurzen cable-car.

Parking is available at the valley station of the cable-car.
Outside the opening hours of the pistes (from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), the pistes are generally closed due to the risk of serious accidents during the preparation of the pistes (winch, etc.). It is forbidden to drive on or enter the closed pistes. Climbing along the ski slope outside the operating hours is not permitted. There is a danger to life due to the use of winches to prepare the slopes!

Please take the warnings seriously and use a headlamp in the evening for your own safety! In winter, caution is advised even on supposedly easy tours. The ground can be slightly icy in shady places and there is a risk of avalanches on slopes. Mountain sports - even more so in winter - are above all subject to personal responsibility.
