Planai Panorama Loop
eenvoudig Hiking · Schladming
This variety-filled, almost flat loop takes you around Planai summit, serving up magnificent views of Ennstal valley, the mountain world of the Schladminger and Hohe Tauern, Dachstein massif and the Ramsau plateau. After just a few metres, you will reach the “Place of Reflection” by small, idyllic Planai tarn. To mark the 25th anniversary of the Planai-Hochwurzen lift company, the walkable wood sculpture in the form of a cross was built here.
Along the path, boards provide info about flora, fauna and interesting facts about the region. If you wish, chalk up another summit conquest: hike uphill for about 10 minutes and you will be at the top of the Planai!
Start at the hiking trail head at the mountain terminal of Planai cable-car. It's your choice whether you start to the left or right and surround the summit of Planai clockwise or counterclockwise.
Conditions: gravel paths, suitable for prams and wheelchairs
Infrastructure: ascent by Planai cable-car
Restaurants: Schladminger Hütte Inn, Da Sepp Inn, Schafalm Inn and Planaihof Inn
Highlights: “Place of Reflection”, Planaisee tarn, Hopsiland

Changes in weather patterns, quick falls in temperature, thunderstorms, wind, fog and snow are some of the dangers that can be encountered on a hiking tour. Hosts of alpine huts and mountain refuges have a lot of experience in the mountains and can give good advice about weather and the trails. Poor equipment, overestimation of one's own capabilities, carelessness, poor personal constitution and/or wrong judgement can lead to critical situations. In case of thunderstorms: avoid summits, ridges and steel ropes.
GPS data and orienteering
Available GPS data - just like hiking maps - is only a guidance for orientation and can never depict a trail exactly with all its details. Especially at dangerous spots it is essential to judge on site how to proceed.
In an emergency please call:
- 140 - for Alpine emergencies (all over Austria)
- 112 - European GSM emergency number
Hiking or trekking shoes with grip sole, jacket.
The trail is also suitable for prams.
