The tour

The loop gives a great overview of Ramsau Ort's positioning at the foot of the Scheichenspitze. Ramsau has also been known as Maple Valley,  reflected by its many maple trees spread across the plateau. Suitable for families, with gentle uphills on forest and meadow trails, and a short narrow forest path over roots. Charming views to the Dachstein, the Schladming Tauern and across the Enns valley. Head to the great viewpoint at the WM jump, to see out over Ramsau Ort and its farmhouses and Evangelic church. Enjoy also the splendid view of the three peaks of Torstein, Mitterspitz, and Dachstein. Variation: take the short, steep uphill to Waldschenke restaurant and the Kulmberg high route with gorgeous views across the Enns Valley.

Turn-by-turn directions

First on the WM-Weg to the Waldschenke. You circle around the Schanzenauslauf and the path then flows into the Philosophenweg. This takes you comfortably to Kulm (orchids along the way in summer - keep your eyes open!). Either on the road to Kühlhaus (opposite Heimat-Stüberl), or from Schistube Steiner on the forest path above the road to the Kühlhaus. From there you follow the signposted path to Kulmbergstrasse. You cross the street and now a comfortable, wide path leads you west. After the houses there is a magnificent view over the meadows to the Planai. A small detour takes you to Gasthof Stocker inn.

The path (wide enough for strollers) leads in an extremely idyllic way along the edge of the forest to Vorbergstrasse. There you turn right, climb briefly uphill to the scooter track, cross it and then a steep climb (approx. 20 minutes) begins at the edge of the forest, parallel to the scooter track. Once at the top, the forest path turns to the left (a short section of Wurzelsteig), which offers great views of the south walls. Your path continues past the Hotel Herold and after a short stretch of road, a gassl (hollow path) branches off to the right, which flows into the Tannenweg. Turn right again and you will reach the ski jumping area again.

Getting there

From the west: Tauernautobahn A 10 to the Ennstal junction - exit in the direction of Graz/Schladming - around 20 km on the Ennstal federal road to Schladming - Ramsau junction.

From the east: Pyhrnautobahn in the direction of Liezen Ennstalbundesstraße to Schladming - Ramsau junction.

Follow the Ramsauer Landesstraße to the Ramsauer Plateau and continue from there to the village of Ramsau.

With the ÖBB trains to Schladming train station and from there with bus #960 of the Ramsauer Verkehrsbetriebe to Ramsau am Dachtein - stop at "Ramsau Ort".
