Weekend Workshop with Aliou Dieme

Experience the captivating world of African dance in an intensive weekend workshop with the renowned dance educator Aliou Dieme. Aliou Dieme blends the traditional dances and ritualistic gestures from the villages of West Africa with his unique dance style, unleashing a true fireworks display of joy and vitality. The focus of the seminar is on the joy of movement and the pure pleasure of dancing.

Workshop Schedule: Saturday, March 15, 2025: 10:15 AM - 12:30 PM / 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Sunday, March 16, 2025: 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Children's Introductory Class: Sunday, March 16, 2025, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Children will engage playfully with African dance and its earthy drum rhythms. The movements stem from the core of the body and require a good sense of rhythm. Aliou introduces dance from his homeland with plenty of charm, and there’s lots of laughter. Walking and swaying to the rhythm of the music are among the basic elements. Additionally, the native Senegalese shares stories and images from his distant homeland. A special experience for every child to connect with a different culture up close.

About Aliou Dieme:
Aliou Dieme hails from Casamance, a lush region in southern Senegal. He studied dance and music at the Conservatory, followed by traditional and modern dance, dance pedagogy, acting, movement improvisation, and rhythm at the "Mudra Afrique" School of Arts in Dakar. Since 1987, Aliou has lived alternately in Vienna and Senegal, sharing his extensive knowledge through courses across Austria and Senegal, with both adults and children.
