Nature Park Sölktäler

Sölk

The Sölktäler Nature Park is located in the Niedere Tauern. The Großsölktal leads to the Sölkpass, the highest Styrian pass at almost 1800m. In the Kleinsölk the idyllic Schwarzensee is the destination of many hikes.

The specialty of the nature park are the many inclusions of white marble in the crystalline rock. Therefore, the flora here is particularly lush and rich in species. Both plants that need crystalline bedrock and lime-loving plants occur together in a very small area.

Traditional alpine farming has lowered the timberline over the centuries. Alpine pastures and the alpine habitats above them are also the characteristic landscape types of the nature park. Only far down in the area of the valley entrances is the climate mild enough for fruit trees to grow well.
