Nestled in the fascinating mountains between the Schladminger Tauern and the Dachstein massif, Schladming is a popular holiday destination in winter and summer. The big winter opening with concerts by world stars such as DJ Martin Garrix, Die Toten Hosen or Robbie Williams at the foot of the Planai puts you in the right winter mood and the stars of the Alpine Ski World Cup compete annually in “The Nightrace” in front of 10,000 spectators on the finish slope of the Planai in the slalom and, since 2023, also in the giant slalom. A true classic in the Alpine skiing calendar takes place here.
With the 4-mountain ski area from Reiteralm via Planai and Hochwurzen to Hauser Kaibling, Schladming offers you a total of 123 kilometers of pistes - perfectly groomed and varied from the summit to the valley. When the sun goes down, activities have not finished. You then go night skiing or night tobogganing on the Hochwurzen, where you can treat yourself to a warm drink - together with an Alpine culinary delicacy.
In summer all variations of hikes are waiting for you - which you can combine into a multi-day experience with one of our great packages - beautiful mountain lakes and lots of action. Schladming is one of Austria's hiking villages (Österreich's wanderdörfer) and has been awarded the Austrian hiking quality seal. With the valley buses you can reach starting points for the most beautiful tours directly from the train station in Schladming.
If you are up for an adrenaline rush you can get it with the mountain go-kart on the Hochwurzen or with the bike on the Reiteralm Trails and in the Schladming Bike Park. The little ones simply have to have fun with the varied family and activity program for families and children.
Schladming was awarded the title “Best Tourism Village 2023” by the UNWTO, underlining the sustainable design of the offerings. The award recognizes villages that are leaders in caring for rural areas and preserving landscapes, cultural diversity, local values and culinary traditions. Of the many innovative projects, the implementation of events under the label “Green Events” or the project in the area of circular economy “Less waste for a better quality of life” were decisive for the award.

Stroller-friendly paths such as the Rohrmoos Fairy Tale Trail or the Schwammerlweg nature trail, adventurous hikes at the waterfall such as the Höll Alpinsteig or hikes to beautiful mountain lakes such as the Spiegelsee, Duisitzkarsee or Riesachsee. Our family program also offers a colorful activity program for you and your family with trial climbing, pony rides, archery, children's carpentry, a fun children's afternoon and much more. Of course, you can't miss a visit to the World Cup mascot Hopsi in Hopsiland Planai, a trip to the Reiteralm children's adventure world with the adventure gondolas and a fun descent with the mountain go-karts after you have explored the Bankerlweg on the Hochwurzen.

Schladming was awarded the “Best Tourism Villages 2023” award by the World Tourism Organization UNWTO. The global initiative of the United Nations awards these to places with cultural and natural resources that preserve rural and community values, promote regional products and ways of life and have a clear commitment to innovation and sustainability in all its aspects. Communities were assessed by an international jury of experts in the areas of cultural and natural resources, sustainability, regional value creation, infrastructure and health and safety.
